The smell of 35mm film in the small storage room where my dad kept
his camera equipment and vast collection of slides, is one of my
favorite smells in the world. Very nostalgic. My passion for
photography was definitely kindled by holding his Pentax K1000 and
looking through that viewfinder, straight through the lens. It's still
something magic to me. I guess it was no coincidence that I ended up
buying my very own K1000 a few years ago.
Even though I mostly shoot digital these days, I started learning about
composition, depth of field and exposure through trial and error on a
35mm SLR camera, which I still take along with me at times.

The United States has been my home since 2004, when I moved here
to be with my wife Lisa, whom I met while living and working in Italy in
the summer of 2002. From the day I was born until I was 26 years old,
I lived in the beautiful country of The Netherlands aka Holland.

The country is probably best known for tulips, cheese, wooden shoes
and windmills, to name but a few clichés, although most of them are
true (no one wears wooden shoes anymore, unless they're a farmer).

The name New Amsterdam Photography comes from the former
name of New York City. The Dutch founded New York in 1624 under
the name New Amsterdam, after the Dutch capital. In 1664, the British
renamed the colony New York, after the British King's brother, James,
Duke of York.

Anyway, whatever your reason was for visiting my site, thank you!
I hope my images connect with you in some way. If you're interested in
purchasing prints, I have a store on Etsy.com where you can find a
selection of my work available for sale.
